Strengths: large capacity, fast speed, 8MB cache, pretty quite
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I got it with an external hard drive enclosure. When I put them together, it rocks. The hard drive runs at a very high speed in the enclosure. It only take me less than 10 min to transfer 4GB data from my laptop to the hard drive via a USB2 port. It's not noisy even compared to the hard drive of my laptop. I love it.

Strengths: Speed, silent operation, capacity for the dollar
Weaknesses: None I can think of
Summary: So far this drive has surpassed my expectations. I own other manufacturers' hard drives that were supposedly equivalent to this Hitachi, but neither one even comes close to the 7K250 in performance or quiet operation. I highly recommend this drive.

Strengths: Price, Storage, Tunable, Speed
Weaknesses: Tuning S/W not provided with product.
Summary: I purchased this drive to upgrade my TiVo device. It was a good bargain with mail-in rebate. The performed very well, but in the TiVo device it was louder than the drive it replaced (5400 rpm). I did some research and found that this drive could be 'tuned' using vendor software (See vendor website). I adjusted the drive so it makes even less noise than than the original drive :) So far the drive has performed flawlessly.

Strengths: Fast, quiet, 3-year warranty (the product description on this site says it's 1-year, it's not correct).
Weaknesses: None found by this time.
Summary: I bought this drive 20 days ago. I intended to use it as a backup drive, but then I found it faster than Seagate 7200.7 120 GB I own and faster and quieter than Maxtor 6Y160P0 160 GB. So I switched it to system drive. Now I wait for several seconds less for Windows XP to boot up. For durability, I may be able to comment 2 years later.

Strengths: 3 year extended warranty.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I have worked overseas before for a few years. IBM/Hitachi has been one of the few HD makers that offer worldwide warranties. I use dozens of large hard drives at home and admit I had to replace an IBM drive before (handled by Hitachi, replacement sent via UPS from Malaysia). I've also had to replace Maxtor and (especially) WD drives. Unlike Hitachi, most of the other HD manufacturers will only warranty the HD in the country of purchase. IBM/Hitachi drives have saved me a lot of grief. Furthermore, most HD's only have 1 year warranties now. I'm thrilled Hitachi still offers 3 year warranties.

Like others, I also got this drive with the ADS enclosure promotion. Unlike others, the ADS enclosure would not recognize this hard drive using my Dell Latitude D600 laptop. I had to format the hard drive using a different brand USB-IDE interface on the laptop. Once formatted, the ADS enclosure worked fine with the Hitachi drive.

Strengths: High speed, high cache
Weaknesses: N/A
Summary: Maybe it's my own problem. I put it in my XBOX(xbox's original HDD is only 8GB). Everytime xbox seek files, the HDD will have some kind of noise.

Strengths: fast speed, 8MB cache, quite, 3 years warranty
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I have used this hard drive as my backup disk for almost 3 month now. I frequently use it to transfer data. That is copy, delete, copy again, delete again. I am quite satisfied with it. Very quite and reliable. Can't say anything about its future. But with 3 years warranty that's enough. You seldom can find any hard disk with more than 1 year warranty right now. So this is a good choice.

Strengths: Relatively quiet Fast Relable Rebate service was AMAZING
Weaknesses: none that ive really noticed; its just a typical hard drive... it hasnt failed on me
Summary: Overall, this hard drive has done everything ive asked of it. Ive read up on hard drives, and in general, Hitachi rank in the top 3-- they are not prone to fail as many of the IBM Deathstars were in the past. If you are looking for a top notch hard drive, look no further.

Strengths: fast access time
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I was worried about the reliability. In the past, these had been dubbed "deathstar". The price was so low, I am giving it a shot. Need to see if this one is still alive after a couple of years, but so far so good.

Strengths: quiet, fast, 3 year warranty, 8MB cache
Weaknesses: none
Summary: This drive has exceeded my expectation so far. I put it in an enclosure and used it as an external back up hard drive for my laptop.

It works great so far. I found the noise level is much lower that that of my Western Digital 120G external hard drive, which I am using right now.

This drive is quiet and fast for USB2.0 connection. What else can you ask for from a Hard drive for that price.

I would recommend it to anyone in need of a large capacity hard drive.

Strengths: quite 5 year warranty
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I have used a deskstar in the past (IBM) and it last for many years. So far, this on seems to be working just fine. Five year warranty is something that most other drive manufactures need to step up to these days.

Strengths: Large Capacity, ATA 100, 8MB Cache, Very Quite Hard Drive, 5 Years Warrenty.
Weaknesses: None I can found so far.
Summary: Very good Hard Drive for general use. It has a large capacity of 160GB, enough for keeping my Camcorder movies before it can be written to DVD Disk. It is also very silent/noiseless drive as compared to WD drives. I will highly recommend it.

Strengths: Large 8MB cache for fast read/write access, quiet drive, 5 year warranty.
Weaknesses: ATA133 would've been faster interface for the drive, though the performance different between ATA100 and ATA133 in the reality might not be significant.
Summary: It definitely exceeded my expectations. Exellent price/capacity ratio for the money, great performance. It runs very quiet and stays relatively cool. 160GB capacity is good enough for video editing. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
